Location: Coimbatore Big Tank is situated with in the Coimbatore Corporation limit, on the Ukkadam - Palghat/Pollachi road. This tank is located on the south of Coimbatore town and to the south of Ukkadam-Selvapuram by-pass road.

Inlet and outlet arrangements: The tank is being fed by a 3 km long Coimbatore anicut channel from the Coimbatore anicut on Noyyal River System. The tank also receives surplus water from the Selvachinthamani tank located in the upstream. The tank is provided with the outlet connection to feed the Valankulam tank, which is located on the eastern side of the tank. It has surplus weir arrangement of about 25.8 m situated to south west side of the tank, which is a masonry weir with side walls and solid apron.
Encroachments: There are about 300 pucca/thatched houses located at the toe of the southern side bund of the tank. The approximate area under the encroachment is around 10 acres. (Source: PWD/WRO, Bhavanisagar dam division, Irrigation sub division, Coimbatore).
