Theethipalayam Pallam - Desilting & Widening

One of our initial project on our mission to restore River Noyyal involved desilting and widening of a pallam at Theethipalayam village across Perur-Siruvani main road. This rivulet flows into the Noyyal River between Chithiraichavadi anicut and Perur anicut. This nature’s creation was being misused by man kind which prevented the natural flow of water into the river. Hence Siruthuli took on the onus of restoring this rivulet by desilting the channel for about 1000 metres and widening it  sufficiently to ensure smooth flow of water during the peak monsoon times.

During the desilting process, it was found that water from the pallam was being illegally tapped using pipelines and it was removed by Siruthuli. Thus, besides desilting and widening the channel, Siruthuli also prevented the illegal theft of water.

Very soon after desilting, there was a heavy rain on Ayyasamy Mountains, one of the catchment areas for the waters of Theethipalayam rivulet.   As the encroachments were completely removed from the rivulet, gushing rain waters were neatly channeled into Noyyal River through this Theethipalayam Pallam which would otherwise have gone into Theethipalayam Karpagam Nagar and finally got stagnated on the Siruvani main road itself (up to the point were Kovai Kondattam is located).
