Residential encroachers of Kurichi Channel (approximately 450 huts / tiled houses) faced a sudden risk due to heavy flow in the channel that comes from River Noyyal. On the night of 16th June 2004, some of the miscreants caused damages to the bund diverting the flow of water from the Kurichi channel back to the river instead of letting those waters to Kuruchi Tank. Very soon, due to heavy flow in the river and through the channel, this small breach enlarged widely (for more than 200 meters) causing heavy damage to the earthen bund.
At the request of the District Collector, Siruthuli employed earth moving equipments on a war-foot basis for 85 hours and transported 110 tipper loads of gravels immediately from different locations to the breached location and arrested the breakage. More than 200 farmers gathered as soon as the channel breach came to the limelight and supported the cause of fixing them immediately.
