Siruthuli along with Coir Board, Government of India and Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Tamilnadu initiated the use of geo-textile materials made of coir to strengthen the bunds of the tanks, on a trial basis. After desilting Kurichi Kulam, the newly formed bunds were covered with coir geo textiles. The geo textiles were anchored to the bund using iron rods & bamboo stakes. The Cenchrus grass slips were planted in the holes of the geo textiles and were watered regularly. Within a few months the grass slips took roots thus preventing the loose soil from erosion. This trial proved to be effective.
