Overflow on Vellalore Tank

Due to unprecedented rains caused by North East monsoons, the Vellalore Tank was overflowing for the first time (in 25 years) during October 2007.  Since there was no surplus water for the last 25 years, the overflow channel from the tank to river Noyyal was fully encroached by the farmers on the either sides. As a result, the surplus water from the tank was flowing through the agricultural fields and this surplus flow could have lead to the submerging of hundreds of acres of agricultural lands apart from encroached dwellings.  Siruthuli’s timely action backed by governmental organizations, channeled the excess flow of water and diverted it back to the Noyyal River.
