Jail authorities of Coimbatore Central Prison came up with an innovative idea of engaging jail inmates quite differently. They felt, they could indeed perform meaningful services to the environment in general and to Coimbatore in specific by raising saplings for Siruthuli. Thus, aptly named “Viduthalai Pasumai Payanam”, a program was launched on 21st November 2008 to raise one lakh saplings. This project could bring a new swiftness to our Pasumai Payanam. In this project, the jail inmates give their labor free of cost and raise 1 lakh saplings for which Siruthuli provides farm inputs and seeds.

As a first step, they have already handed over 10,000 raised saplings to Siruthuli.

Inroder to appreciate the efforts by the jail inmates in greening the city, the District Collector Dr P Umanath IAS along with Team Siruthuli visited them and handed over gifts as a token of appreciation.

Thus, this specific program is certainly a value added outsourcing of Nursery activities. The value addition on this specific case is nothing but establishing harmony between the convicts. Being first of this kind, this specific project has become a model project towards engaging jail inmates for a creative cause.
